Sonder Life Learners is a dynamic, child-led homeschool community inspired by John Koenig’s concept of sonder—the profound realization that every person has a rich, intricate inner world as vivid and complex as our own.

Rooted in autonomy, creative play, and holistic development, we blend academic learning with meaningful exploration, honoring each child’s natural curiosity.

What began as a Facebook group has evolved into a thriving support network for homeschooling families seeking flexible, affordable, and engaging learning experiences. Our focus is on empowering children to set meaningful goals, explore their passions, and learn in a way that feels both natural and fulfilling.

Our approach is multi-faceted, blending elements of:
✔ Waldorf-inspired seasonal rhythms
✔ Montessori-style hands-on exploration
✔ STEM-based critical thinking and problem-solving
✔ Unstructured outdoor play & forest learning

Over the years, we’ve offered a diverse range of seasonal and thematic classes—from science, art, and literature to swimming, jiu-jitsu, and even Dungeons & Dragons. Each experience is designed to spark curiosity, encourage autonomy, and create a love for learning.

We are currently expanding into a more structured learning model while maintaining our core philosophy of child autonomy.

Each of our three classrooms provides a unique environment, offering children freedom, structure, and connection to the natural world.

🌱 Montessori-Inspired Classroom (South Everett)

Our Montessori-inspired space is a warm, home-like setting designed to foster independence and creativity.
🌿 Art, cooking, and a garden allow children to engage in practical life skills.
📖 A cozy reading nook & open-ended learning materials encourage curiosity and exploration.
💡 A flexible environment where children freely explore interests while building resilience and independence.

🎨 Waldorf-Inspired Classroom (Downtown Everett)

Located in a converted detached garage (currently under renovation and nearing year-round usability!), this space is designed to spark imagination and hands-on learning.
🌟 Waldorf-style toys & natural materials inspire magical thinking and open-ended play for all ages.
🌿 A quiet, fenced yard with a covered deck provides a peaceful outdoor area for play and learning.
🌀 A slow, rhythmic approach infused with seasonal crafts, movement, and storytelling.

🌲 Forest Classroom (Marysville – Lotus Belle Tent)

Our forest-based classroom is where wild, nature-immersed learning happens.
🔥 A year-round heated Lotus Belle tent, warmed by a wood-burning stove.
🥣 Outdoor cooking – Children help prepare seasonal soups and rice dishes.
🏕️ Rain-or-shine outdoor play – Open-ended, unstructured learning in a 3-acre wooded setting.
🌿 A nearby log cabin with a kitchen & restroom is available as needed.
📌 Outdoor gear is required for all children attending Forest School days.
